Hello Sugardew Island Friends, We are happy to announce that we have reached two more milestones 🚀.
The character editor is being added to the game, and we are also expanding the number of plants in Sugardew Island 🥕.
We have also decided to offer 3 more pet skins, whereby you will receive the Nightsky skin as a gift 🎁 from us if you have a pledge level of 30€ or more (example: Digital Bonus Edition). As you know, there is already another outfit available from 40€ Pledge Tier.
This means that every backer who has opted for at least the Digital Bonus Edition (€30 or more) will receive a pet skin from us and an outfit for free from €40 🎉.
Alternatively, you can also add one or all three pet skins and the outfit as an add-on.
New Stretchgoal revealed
Two more stretch goals have been revealed which we hope to reach with your help in the next 24h.
1) 90k€ - Adopt wild animal friends
2) 95k€ - Colorful livestock colors

We're thrilled to announce that we've hit the €65,000 milestone 🚀, unlocking the exciting option to decorate your farm areas with fences and slabs!
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your incredible support. With 10 days left in our campaign, there's still plenty of time to unlock even more fantastic stretch goals and further expand the game with your invaluable help.
🧱 Fence & Slabs
Thanks to your contributions, we can now incorporate fences and slabs into the game, allowing you to personalize and beautify your farm areas to your heart's content. We've been hard at work preparing the concepts for this feature.
👩🌾 Next stretch goal - Character Editor
Thanks to your comments and frequent requests, we have been busy tinkering with ideas for a character designer, which we want to realize at €80.000. This replaces the character selection in the game and offers you more possibilities to customize your character.
"The character selection becomes a complete character editor where you can choose between face & eyes, hair, skin colour, outfit and hats."
There will be no gender selection, everyone creates their character as they wish. The player doesn't have to choose a pronoun in Sugardew Island, we're trying to write a gender neutral story as much as possible. Here is a mock up of the editor which we created in Photoshop (subject to change).

Character Editor
The next stretch goal we want to unveil is the "Character Editor" which we want to realize at €80,000. This replaces the character selection in the game and offers you more possibilities to customize your character.

New reward item unlocked!
We would like to give every backer over 40€ a small gift and offer an exclusive digital outfit to your existing pledge tier (there is no design yet, picture is for reference only).
All backers who have the "Digital Standard Edition (PC/Console)" or "Digital Bonus Edition (PC/Console)" version can change their pledge tier or add the outfit as an add-on.
🛑 IMPORTANT: Unfortunately, we can no longer change existing reward descriptions on Kickstarter, so we can't add an "exclusive ingame outfit" to the existing rewards in the description. But we promise we will send them to you (for all pledges over 40€).

We have also added new pledge tiers as some users have asked for them.
Many users asked for an Early Access version that comes WITHOUT a physical NintendoSwitch edition. We added this to make it more attractive in price for those who don't need a physical Nintendo Switch version. You could now switch at any time.

We are very thankful for your incredible support and enthusiasm for our project. The 40.000€ stretch goal has been reached and we are looking forward to introducing you to the next two goals that will add more features to the game ☝🏼.
We also wanted to use this Kickstarter update to publicize for everyone the questions that came in from you. Thank you for your interest.
Question: Is the launch schedule realistic? It seems a little ambitious for an expected release later this year after just over a year of production.
Yes, it is realistic as we have already made good progress in development and with the €30,000 target the foundation of the project would be funded and we could release it by August. Depending on how many more stretch goals are reached, the plan/release date could still change.
Question: Will you be hiring one or more English translators to help with the grammar/flow/Polish?
Don't worry, as we are a German team, we understand your question. We work closely with a localization studio.
Question: Will animals and/or pets have actual utility functions besides general interaction/petting/following?
We differentiate between farm animals (e.g. cows and chickens), wild animals and pets. Farm animals give you additional products that you can sell, wild animals can give you seeds, but pets do not yet give you any products.
Question: How will the time (day/night cycles) work in the game? and how will the save function work?
Our game is "turn-based". You have as much time as you want per day as there is no timer in the game. The only rule is that you can only open the store once a day. There are 3 sections of the day: When you start the day, it's in the morning, when you open the store, it's at noon and when you close the store, it's in the evening. You can save your game manually in the house, but when you end the day, we also save automatically.
Question: Will there be a housing/decorating/customization feature?
With the funding goal of 30.000€ (foundation) there is no decoration or housing, but buildings that can be upgraded.
Question: Will the market prices for our store be variable from day to day (or use a different unique system/approach) so that farming and production doesn't become monotonous and players end up focusing on a particular crop as the ultimate cash cow?
Our store system so far is less of an economic simulator and more of a cozy game. We hope that players will plant the seeds of wild animals and still build a colorful business that isn't just endgame crops.
Question: Will the crops that you plant have an effect on the ones around them? (example: Palia)
At the moment, our cultivated crops have no effects.
Question: The jump in price from the base game to early access is the highest I’ve seen in a kickstarter project, as well as a very EA short window. I see it does include both a digital and physical copy, but perhaps adding a digital only early access version would have more success and backers?
Thanks for your feedback, you can also add the Early Access Reward as an add-on for 20€ but I see we should either declare/explain this better or include a new PC only pledge tier. Good point. We'll figure something out.
Question: Have you already had alpha/beta testers or do you plan to have any?
We will probably not start a beta test. QA will be done by an external company. If something changes, we will inform all EA people again.
Question: I would like to ask about the gender or pronoun options for the player character.
Our pre-selected characters will not have a set gender and we will not be labeling them. We understand that the characters we show in our trailer look gender specific, so we want to provide more variety by offering fewer gender choices.
The player doesn't have to choose a pronoun in Sugardew Island, we're trying to write a gender neutral story as much as possible.
PS: We would like to mention that even though the characters are pre-selected, you will definitely be able to select different skin tones for these characters.
PPS: Yes, we also have a whole character editor planned as a later stretch goal :)
